Las Vegas is mourning the loss of a much-loved visionary. Manny Cortez died this weekend of a heart attack.

Many say Cortez helped to make Las Vegas the tourist destination that it is today.

The skyline of Las Vegas is known worldwide, and it is exactly what Manny Cortez wanted.

A block away from the Las Vegas Strip, flags are flying at half-staff in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center. It's the place where Manny Cortez worked for more than twenty years, some of those years included being president.

Cortez served four terms as a Clark County Commissioner and spent 13-years as the head of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. He retired in 2004.

Manny Cortez was 67 years old.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Rest In Peace, Manny.
