Staff Sgt. Christopher Schornak Dies In Iraq

Posted by Slobokan @ 19:51 · 145 words · print

Staff Sergeant Christopher Schornak graduated from Marietta’s Pope High School in 1996. His son was born April 1, 2003, while Schornak was on his first tour of duty in Iraq.

On Saturday, Schornak’s wife, Robyn, and their family got the news they did not want to hear. Sgt. Schornak — reserve soldier, father, husband — was killed in the line of duty in Iraq.

Soldiers who called Robyn at her home in Franklin, Ky., said that he was killed while on evening patrol. They said that two suspicious vehicles approached Schornak’s squad on a side street. The soldiers said Schornak was signaling the rest of his men with a flashlight, when he was picked off by a shot that hit him near his shoulder, in an area not covered by body armor.

Rest In Peace, Sgt. Schornak, and thank you for your dedication and service to your country.
