Dennis Weaver, the slow-witted deputy Chester Goode in the TV classic western "Gunsmoke" and the New Mexico deputy solving New York crime in "McCloud," has died. The actor was 81.

Weaver died of complications from cancer Friday at his home in Ridgway, in southwestern Colorado, his publicist Julian Myers said.

What has our grand world come to when we can do this, and still walk the streets without shame? How can we pretend we are innocent of a great crime? –for are indeed guilty to if we do not protest. And the measure of a society is in how it treats her most defenseless.

My God, what will people think? First we pass a law which requires identification in order to vote, and now we want employers to guarantee their employees are not illegal aliens. Oh, the horror.

The Georgia Legislature is considering a bill aimed at illegal immigrants that would penalize employers who hire them.

The measure would require employers to ensure that anyone they pay, whether as an employee or an independent contractor, is legally able to work, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Employers who do not, would not be able to deduct payments to illegal workers on state income tax returns and would not be eligible for state contracts.

The "Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act" would also make state and local government agencies responsible for verifying the immigration status of anyone applying for public benefits, and set up a system for verifying the status of anyone arrested in the state.

Living in Georgia is beginning to have it's distinct advantages.

Opponents say most illegals simply want to work and are willing to do hard, low-paying jobs most legal residents won't do.

Of course, we haven't really been able to test that theory yet, since illegal aliens have been allowed to work those low-paying jobs. Let's pass the bill, roll the dice, and find out. What do you say?
