Rev. Earl Stallings Dies

A former pastor of First Baptist Church of Birmingham who was one of the eight white clergy the Reverend Martin Luther King Junior addressed in his "Letter From Birmingham Jail" has died.
He was 89 years old.

The Reverend Earl Stallings died Thursday in Lakeland, Florida where he'd been living in a retirement center.

From 1961-to-1965, he was pastor of First Baptist Church and angered many in his all-white congregation by allowing blacks, including civil rights leader Andrew Young, to attend a Sunday worship service after King's April 12, 1963 arrest.

Rest In Peace, Rev. Stallings.
