Lawmakers Finally Getting Their Act Together

It's about time they addressed this in our state legislature.
State lawmakers are rushing to close the legal loophole that allows Lisa Clark's 15-year-old groom to marry her because she was pregnant.
The state House overwhelmingly passed a law to prevent cases like that in the future.
Embarrassed by the saga of Lisa Clark and her 15-year-old groom, house members voted for a broader overhaul of marriage laws for the very young, bringing parents into the process.
The bill raises Georgia’s minimum marriage age to 18. Younger teens — 16- and 17-year olds could get married, but only with a parent’s consent or a judge’s permission — and no one under 16 could get married at all.
This is a heck-of-a-lot better than than allowing a 15 year old boy to marry a woman twice his age, and allowing them to stay married, simply because she got pregnant when she was molesting him. I still don't believe this was actually legal in this day and age…
Of course, just as lawmakers try to close the loophole, a bleeding heart comes along and jams a couple of fingers in the loop hoping to keep it open…
But DeKalb Democrat Randal Mangham argued if both bride and groom are under 16 and she's pregnant, marriage should still be an option, if they've got family support.
Ridiculous. I guess we should allow them to drink alcohol too, heck, if they have family support, why not? Oh, and smoke. Might as well let them do that too, if their family says it's okay. But let's not get carried away and start making them act responsibly so these situations don't occur. That would be taking things way too far…
