Boycott Aruba? I Wasn't Going There Anyway.

Due to other pressing issues, I haven't had time to blog about my position on the boycott of Aruba.

Aruban government officials have complained to the U.S. State Department about the governor of Alabama's call for a boycott of the Dutch Caribbean island for its alleged mishandling of the investigation into the disappearance of an American teenager.

The government of the Dutch territory hopes State Department officials will help halt a boycott that could damage Aruba's crucial tourist industry, Prime Minister Nelson Oduber told reporters.

Isn't running to the State Department a lot like running to the principal because your teacher wont let you play at recess? Totally ridiculous. If the state of Alabama, the Holloway's, the Twitty's, or anyone else wants to boycott Aruba, they are more than entitled too.

Are the Kalpoe brothers involved in her disappearance? Who knows. Is van der Sloot involved? Who knows.

Exactly who is responsible is irrelevant (where the boycott is concerned). The fact of the matter is, the investigation was botched from the beginning. Key suspects were never questioned. Statements were never obtained from key witnesses. But most of all, the Aruban authorities just didn't seem interested in finding out what happened to Natalee, and that alone is good enough reason to boycott, in my book.

"This is a preposterous and irresponsible act," Oduber said Tuesday night after attending a closed session with members of Parliament to discuss the boycott. "We are not guerillas. We are not terrorists. We don't pose a threat to the United States, nor to Alabama."

I agree. They are not terrorists, and they pose no danger to the United States or the state of Alabama, especially if we all stop going there.

It has been a long time since It has been a long time since I have been here. Time goes by so quickly. I have not followed along regarding the Natalie Holloway case. I just wondered if there was anything knew. I did hear that a wired trap was found and there was some body parts inside. I thought they were going to look for her dna from the remains found. I still think those boys had a part in her disappearance.

I think the boycott is a grea I think the boycott is a great idea as long as everyone is in on it. We need everyone to be a part of this. I only live 20 minutes away from where Natalee lived and i didn't even know her. But I have been keeping up with all of it from day one, so i feel like I know her and i just hope something happens soon that will lead us to Natalee. Dr. Phil seems to think that she is alive, and so do I, but the thought of her suffering wherever she is, just makes me sad. I just pray, and hopefully everyone's prayers will help them find her. She didn't deserve this at all, and neither did her family. Mrs. Twitty is a very smart person. I don't think she will ever give up.

I feel so bad for this woman, I feel so bad for this woman, and there is no excuse for her daughters disappearance BUT

This is a good lesson for parents thinking of sending their 18 year old out of this country unchaperoned!

U.S. law only applies to our courty not that of other countries.

Bad things can happen and you are at the mercy of the law of the country you are in

The State Dep. can not handle every missing person abroad and it was not wise to get involved in this one.

Boycotting Aruba is a rediculous idea. I was kind of embarrased to hear that the Governor of Alabama started doing this. The island of Aruba is one of the safest and peaceful places you could go. What happened to Natalee is unfortunate for her family and friends, and also unfortunate for the people of Aruba for having this happen on their island, but also for being blamed and boycotted for an unfortunate incident.

Aruba has been one of the United States' biggest allies throughout history (they supplied around 40% of the oil we used to win WWII), and when a member of our government tries to sully Aruba's reputation, I do not blame them for talking to the State Department.

Aruba does not have the most sophisticated police in the world because they have 1 murder a year in the entire country. I feel sorry for Mrs. Twitty's situation, but she is taking this over the top and just making herself look rediculous.

In the last 5 years, there have been 6 missing children listed for Alabama in the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children web site (http://www.missingkids.org). What has the Governor of Alabama done to find these children? Should we all boycott Alabama? That would be as rediculous as boycotting Aruba.

Boycotting Aruba. true the polis dept did mess up the investigation from the start,True the arrogance of the justice dept. did not help matters at all.
So how can somebody who believes in God can participate and support this boycott.
The people from aruba are the most friendly and caring people i'have met.
A lot of people depend on tourism for they'r livelyhood.
resuarants are cloosing up and hotels are cuuting back they'r staff. There is no well fare in Aruba to speak off.
Most the famillies in aruba nor only take care of they'r children but also they'r elders. This boycott is hurting a lot of inocent people.Don't make evebody from aruba suffer for the mistake of the incopetence of they some of they'r leaders.
If people do not let go of the anger. they will never grow and be happy.God has the answer to this mistery, and it will be revealed when it is supposed to.
    thank you.
