Three simple words. Funniest. Book. Ever.
If there was ever an honest handbook for fatherhood, In the Beginning… There Were No Diapers by Tim Bete is it.
While there are many books out there to help fathers learn what they can do to become a better dad, Tim’s book gives fathers a chance to reflect on the events in their childrens lives, and realize maybe they haven’t been so terrible after all. Tim’s laugh out loud account of fatherhood will fill your heart with inspiration and your eyes with tears. Yes, the book was that funny.
When I do a review I usually quote my favorite part of the book, but I don’t think Tim would appreciate me quoting all 189 pages of his book here on my blog, so I will limit myself to this little sniplet,
“While visiting a farm, my wife used her miraculous supersniffing power to distinguish between two unpleasant odors that would make mere mortals’ eyes water. While strolling across the barnyard, inhabited by cows, goats, and pigs, she turned to me and said, “I think Annie needs a new diaper.”
“Egads!: I shouted. “You’re able to detect a dirty diaper in the midst of a barnyard that smells, well, like a barnyard! Where were you born, woman, the planet Smellefra?!”
Of course, I was joking when I mentioned the planet Smellefra. Everyone knows that Smellotopians have no noses.
This is the perfect book for any father, especially those who need a subtle reminder of how God is working in their lives through the actions, and reactions, of their children. Of course, it might scare off some prospective fathers, unless of course they already have a good stockpile of M&M’s on hand.
If you are a father, go grab this book today. If you know a father or someone who might appreciate a little insight into the miracles of fatherhood, remember, Father’s Day is only 8 months away.
