Gov. Sonny Perdue’s office has announced the state of Georgia is joining the 34 state network participating in the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Registry. The website can be found at www.nsopr.gov.
“This registry is a powerful tool that will help protect Georgia citizens. Public access to valuable information on sex offenders will help prevent senseless crimes against innocent victims,” said Perdue.
The site allows users to access information in each of the 34 states participating in the registry. Queries can be entered by name, city, county or zip code.
The registry includes information on sex offenders living in Georgia who have been released from prison, placed on parole, probation or supervised release since July 1996. According to the Department of Justice, there are more than 500,000 registered sex offenders nationwide.
