The Spirit Of New Orleans?

Earlier today, FoxNews was doing a live report from Houston, where a reporter interviewed a man who was “angry”.

He said the debit cards provided by the Red Cross were not activated and people were giving them the “run-around” when he asked questions about it.

“We don’t have any God Damned thing. Nobody is trying to help us. FEMA is a fake and fraud. The Red Cross is a fake and a fraud.”

“Where do we go from here?”

“If we can’t depend on our own federal government, who can we depend on?”

The reporter mentioned the FEMA cards and their balance of $2,000. The man breaks in with,

“I only received $700. $700 and then cut my card off”

He was clearly talking about the Red Cross debit cards, not the FEMA cards.

At this point in the video, we might think he had a legitimate complaint, and begin to feel sorry for him and everyone else “stuck” in this situation, but then the fun begins.

The anchor in the studio asks, “Can you ask him what he wants? What is he looking for?” You have to hear it to believe it, but he says,

“What I would like to happen? I would like for them to give us at least $20,000 a piece so we can, you know, get our life together.. You know, we didn’t ask to come on that, that bus, lady”

$20,000? hahaha. Yeah, we’ll get on that right away. I want some of what he’s been smoking.

No one forced him on that bus either. No forced him to stay in New Orleans while the hurricane approached. He is clearly not disabled, nor infirm in any way. He appears to be an able bodied man who chose to “ride out” the storm. Why should we give him $20,000 for that? After rebuilding and such, he will receive far more than that in government assistance, if it is needed.

Is that the end of it? Oh no, it is not.

“It’s like a slave ship. Just like, you know, back in history. Ya know, they, they put us on a slave ship. They separated us from our families, they did it. Ya know, it’s modern day slavery. Ya know.”

Modern day slavery? Is he serious? He has to be smoking something.

The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the evacuation of survivors has nothing in common with slavery, except maybe the fact that they both occurred in the South.

Until he started on his “$20,000 tirade” I did not even consider his skin color. I thought he was well spoken and he had a point. But after hearing this part of the interview I figured he was nothing more than an angry embicile who had a chip on his shoulder.

“Just give us what the fuck we deserve.”

What he deserves? What he deserves is a bill from the local, state and federal governments for having to “rescue” his sorry ass from the hell that is now known as New Orleans. He clearly chose to “ride out” the storm” and he is clearly trying to get as much as he can, as fast as he can.

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme. The motto of many, many, Americans.

This is definitely the “me” generation. If I didn’t think so before, I sure do now. It seems no matter where I turn, people are saying “what are you going to give me?”

I do not know his personal circumstances, but no matter what his circumstances, he is entitled to the generosity of the American people, but after acting like he has today, he clearly does not deserve it.
