The New Fight

From SaveCharlotte.com:

Sometime in mid May Charlotte's Mum and Dad will go to the Appeals court, asking them to rescind the DNR order. If they fail there, they will try the European court. At this point we don't have much hope in a favourable ruling, but we will do all we can.

Whether the courts rule in favour or not, the hospital has lost all the trust they had. After exploring different options, we've decided the best thing we can do is to bring little Charlotte home. Our plan of action now is to bring her home, and have her reassessed by a pro-life Christian doctor.

She is certainly a high tech baby, and the equipment necessary to take care of her at home will cost a great deal of money– money the Wyatts do not have. We'll be asking you to do what you can to help.

Let's show the world that we mean what we say about the value of life and donate generously to help them. If you know others who might also be interested in helping, urge them to give as well. This is important–show that you really care.

Voter ID Bill Vetoed In Wisconsin

Gov. Jim Doyle vetoed a bill Friday that would have required voters to show government-issued picture identification at the polls, saying it would disenfranchise elderly voters.

Republicans had argued that the bill would help eliminate the potential for fraud during elections, in which registered Wisconsin voters – like those in many states – need only give their name and address to cast ballots.

But Doyle, a Democrat, said the bill would have made voting more difficult for about 100,000 senior citizens who don't have driver's licenses.

"It will do nothing to correct the management and process problems that have been identified in our elections," he said in a statement.

How does this disenfranchise elderly voters? They are required to have some legal form of identification for other reasons. If they didn't they could not have bank accounts and other such items that require, by law, valid forms of identification. The driver's license is not the only valid form of identification. Requiring valid identification to simply prove someone is eligible to vote does not disenfranchise that person, it protects the validity of their vote.

Mason Adams Dies

Longtime Westport resident Mason Adams, the actor best known for his role as the easygoing managing editor on television's "Lou Grant" show, died of natural causes Tuesday at 86 in his Upper East Side home, The New York Times reported today.

Mason, who had received three Emmy nominations for his TV role, was also the voice over pitchman for the J. M. Smucker Company with his signature line, "With a name like Smucker's, it has to be good." His warm, grandfatherly, Rockwellian voice and screen presence, won the actor recognition as an embodiment of Americana.

Adams, who began his career in radio, was also a stage actor. The Times reports his last play was the Roundabout Theater's production of Arthur Miller's "The Man Who Had All the Luck" in 2002.

Adams moved to Westport in 1957 when he married Margot Fineberg, and they also maintained a home in Manhattan. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter Betsy, and son, Bill.

Rest In Peace, Mason.

Cold Feet Or Cold Case?

Investigators have taken several computers from the home of a missing bride-to-be to examine e-mails for clues to her disappearance, police said Friday.

Jennifer Wilbanks, 32, was reported missing Tuesday night by her fiance, John Mason, who said she did not come home after her nightly jog in this Atlanta suburb. He said she left with only her radio and the clothes she had on.

Police found Wilbanks' keys, cash, credit cards and identification in the home she shared with Mason.

Chief Randy Belcher said investigators took three computers from the home and were reviewing e-mails.

Authorities said they considered the case a criminal investigation, but police gave mixed signals about whether they believe Wilbanks may have gotten cold feet.

Maj. Don Woodruff said authorities did not believe Wilbanks was a runaway bride. But under questioning from reporters, Belcher later said: "It's a very real possibility she did get cold feet. I mean, how many husbands have gone out for a pack of cigarettes and not come back?"

We have been watching the developments in this case here on our local news, and something is odd. I am not quite sure what it is yet, but something "just ain't right" about this case… More later…
