Appeals Court Rejects Motion

From AP:

With time running out for Terri Schiavo, a federal appeals court Wednesday rejected her parents' latest attempt to get the brain-damaged woman's feeding tube reconnected.

The Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to consider an emergency bid by Bob and Mary Schindler for a new hearing in their case, raising a flicker of hope for the parents after a series of setbacks in the case. But the court rejected the bid 15 hours later – the fourth time since last week the court ruled against the Schindlers.

"Any further action by our court or the district court would be improper," Judge Stanley F. Birch Jr. wrote. "While the members of her family and the members of Congress have acted in a way that is both fervent and sincere, the time has come for dispassionate discharge of duty."

I'm In

From SoCalAngel:

Sunday (Easter) I put out on the internet for everyone to come together in prayer at the same time. I didn't get but only a few responses and beings it was Easter I am sure not many people were on the internet. So once again I am going to initiate it. TODAY at 6pm PST – 9pm EST (all other time zones adjut time accordingly), stop what ever you are doing and pray for Terri. Pray for God's devine intervention and that his will be done. I feel God's will is for Terri to live or she would have passed on by now. Rebuke all evil that surrounds Terri. Pray what's in your hearts. There is power in prayer and that power will be magnified with all praying at once. Matthew 18:20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.

What about you?

Appeals Court To Hear Petition

From AP:

A federal appeals court early Wednesday agreed to consider a petition by Terri Schiavo's parents for a new hearing on whether to reconnect their severely brain-damaged daughter's feeding tube.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled without comment on Schiavo's 12th day without nourishment. Last week, the same court twice ruled against Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, who are trying to keep her alive.

In seeking a new hearing late Tuesday, attorneys for Schiavo's parents argued that the District Court "committed plain error when it reviewed only the state court case and outcome history."

Now, the court will consider the request for a new hearing, rather than whether previous Florida court rulings have met legal standards under state law, which is what federal courts have done in the case until now.

A Common Sense Reminder

Terri Schiavo. A life. Not a political campaign. Not a contest. Not a game. Not a reason to be right or wrong. Not even a reason to argue. Not a reason to throw stones and to threaten others. Terri Schiavo is a life slowly slipping away. She is not a symbol or a martyr. She is a disabled woman someone deemed without worth. Let us show her worth through her memory, not by who said the most clever thing or wrote the best article. Certainly not by arguing and fighting among ourselves or viciously attacking others. But by respecting life and living. By coming together and giving a voice to those who cannot speak and by not letting her die in vain.

That's Just Wrong

From CNN:

Michael Schiavo's sister-in-law said a man threatened to shoot her and her family if Terri Schiavo dies, Philadelphia police said Tuesday.

Joan Schiavo, who has testified over the years that Terri Schiavo would not have wanted to be kept alive in her condition, reported Monday evening that a white car drove by her Philadelphia-area home at 4:30 a.m., 5:10 a.m. and 7 a.m., when she was leaving to go to work, said Cpl. Jim Pauley, a police spokesman.

During the last pass, Schiavo told police, the car stopped and the man inside yelled "murderer," then added, "If Terri dies, I'm coming back to shoot you and your family."

Joan Schiavo is married to William Schiavo, one of Michael's brothers.

Pauley said she described a four-door, early 1990s car, and said the driver was white, in his late 30s with brown hair and a "scruffy" appearance.

Threatening violence will not help Terri in her fight for life, and anyone who condones this type of behavior is NOT helping matters. Not for Terri, and not for anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation.
