You will notice some changes around here and they are not all cosmetic.

First, the cosmetics. If you use Mozilla Firefox, you should see the nifty new "Spilled Post-It" layout. If you still insist on using the inferior Internet Explorer you will see something else, because Internet Explorer is not sophisticated enough to interpret the style sheet the way it should be interpreted. I have no idea how other browsers will view the site, but then again, since the percentage of people not using the two I have already mentioned is below 5% I do not really care.

I remember the early days of the internet when Netscape and IE were fighting tooth and nail to be the dominant browser, and those of us who wanted consistency for our visitors had to support two versions of our web pages so people could read them no matter which browser they used. I sure thought those days were over. Maybe it's beyond me and there is a way to make the page look "normal" in Internet Explorer, but I do not have that much time to spend trying to make it happen. Frankly, Internet Explorer usage is dropping dramatically on my site, so maybe it's just not worth it…

Anyway, as far as the changes around here. I dropped a whole bunch of links from the site, and I will be making more changes as I get time this week. I am no longer going to keep links to sites which are (a) boring, (b) redundant, (c) asinine, (d) of little interest to humanity. Of course, I will add some links as I get time to fully reflect the new "outlook" of the blog.

The main focus of this blog has always been current events and political news. That focus will basically remain the same, but I am going to start looking at things a bit differently. No longer will I focus solely on the politics of the news. Of course I will still take a side in the issues, as I think it is impossible for someone to stay neutral when personally relating to stories in the news. While I will still take sides, I am going to make an attempt to reflect the views of the other side a bit more, so I do not sound like some preacher on a pulpit shoving morals down your throat.

Oh yeah, and attitude. If I think it, I am going to type it. So watch out. I am sick and tired of liberal people screaming about issues on the left side. I am sick and tired of conservative people screaming about issues on the right side. Personally, I think it's time to focus on the issues that affect us all, and talk about life, from the inside.

For example, take the "armored Humvee" issue that has been in the news. We all know that the humvees need to be better armored. We all know what the troops think. We all know what the administration thinks. You know what I think? I think we should all step back from the issue, leave our political affiliations and the armor issue at the door, and climb into one of those humvees. Let's take a ride around Fallujah. I bet you think about the armor issue every time we hit a bump in the road. I bet you think about the armor issue every time we hear a loud noise outside the humvee. I bet the whole time we are riding inside it, you think of nothing else but the armor issue.

But we are not in a humvee, traveling the roads of Iraq, are we? Our soldiers are. It's not so bad when it's not your ass in the sling is it? It's easy to remove ourselves from an issue, take sides, demand action, and point fingers. It's not so easy when you know our men and women are relying on these humvees to protect them. Our men and women need solutions to the problems facing them in the battlefield, and like I said before, let's get it done.

*Special thanks to Vinny for the image of the humvee

  1. Hi Doug, rnrnGood to see you Hi Doug,

Good to see you stop by again!

I switched to WordPress a while back, long before MovableType 3.0 came out. I switched because I was tired of waiting for the site re-builds with the MT system, and loved the plugin capabilities of WP.

I am very happy with it, thanks!

Happy New Year to you too.

(And for the rest of you reading, you should visit Doug's site, I make sure to check it every day!

  2. :smile:rnWell, this site seem
Well, this site seems to have more new "clothes" than a high upkeep woman…glad I don't know any of them…but….

Looks good. I am shifting almost wholly to firefox. The test in the comment area is a bit hard to read but rest of site looks good…and seems unique…but I don't see a lot of blogs.

Why the switch to WordPress? Happy with it?

    Happy New Year.
